The LED

Before looking at our range of products, we feel it is important to understand what an LED is. The term LED means light emitting diode. This is an electronic component that lights up when a current is run across it. It first appeared in the 60s, but it was not yet used for lighting – rather, it was used to indicate whether power is on or not. Basically the LEDs are red with a low light output, less than 1 Mcd. Over the years the LED began to evolve, first in color then in power. Today we talk about high-power LED components with a power greater than 1 W. Today we find on the market a wide range of uses for the LED from spotlights to the conventional light bulb through to many accessories.

LED Light Bulbs Pros And Cons

We must be pragmatic and understand that there are disadvantages and advantages in each bulb. We will try to compare the LED bulb with the incandescent bulb in an objective manner.

Incandescent LED
Consumption Very high very low
luminous flux Good Average
life Average excellent
heat loss high low
Inert gas Krypton / Argon no
Color yellow multiple (RGB)
Spectrum reduced reduced (not UV)
Cost low relatively high

The obvious advantage an LED has is electricity consumption being far less than the average light bulb. One weakness is the light level that is relatively low, however this is made up by the fact that it will last so much longer, so long-term costs are less regardless of the high initial investment. Heat loss is an important factor to consider as this essentially represents a loss of energy put into it. With incandescent bulbs, a lot of energy is lost to heat (so not only is it more expensive to run, but it gets very hot therefore dangerous). Imagine your money coming out as heat instead of light.

Currently there is no bulb that is perfect, but we must choose according to our needs. For a more playful and adaptable mood lighting with color effects go with LED lights. Our LED products are varied and we guarantee you that we will have a light for whatever need you have.
